Hats

While watching (yet again) one of my favorite movies, You’ve Got Mail, I re-heard one of my favorite lines…

Kathleen Kelly: “Once I read a story about a butterfly in the subway, and today, I saw one. It got on at 42nd, and off at 59th, where, I assume it was going to Bloomingdales to buy a hat that will turn out to be a mistake – as almost all hats are.”

…and it reminded me of how many hats I have in my home.  Some from beach trips, a few from jobs where I have worked, and many – in fact a LOT, from a sweet friend, Miriam.  A woman, from Baltimore, who always wore a hat to church on Sunday.   Not just, I came to know, because she was a pastor’s wife, but truly from a love of hats.

They bring me back to my childhood when my mom wore hats … all women wore hats… Hats were in.  Hats, to me, stated the dignity of that time.

I don’t wear these hats in my home.   I happen to agree with the line, that most hats almost always turn out to be a mistake.  They stay hung up and remind me of days that were different, of  joy from the past.

What Is Precious To You?

Sweet moment with some of my sisters and Grandma
Sweet moment with some of my sisters and Grandma

Grateful to live in a country where life is full of good.   We have so much joy.  So much that is precious. My blog today is from years of joy.   I had a grandmother who loved all of us fiercely and so there are many memories of her visits with us.  She was a strong influence in my life.

Two of the best gifts ever from God!  Children are such a blessing.  What are your best gifts in life?

3

The joy of friendship!

Doesn’t this picture bring memories of your childhood friend?

4

The joy of new life.  With all the sorrow and destruction, there is hope with each new baby …

When I see my children with their children I smile broadly.

7

My two gifts from so many years ago multiplied into 4 of the sweetest and funniest souls I have met to date.

My prejudice shows – I know that!!   How have your joys multiplied?

Faith… Hope … Love – God teaches us that these are the best of gifts.  Thankful that my life is brimming with them all.  Wishing you the same!

And also … maybe a chocolate milk mustache!

New Beginnings

January – the month of new beginnings … resolutions… hope for what is to come. What better way to start the New Year than with pictures of a precious newborn!

Almost like Tigger!

Gianna … when I see her all that comes to my mind is adjectives:

Bouncy

Happy

Determined

Giggly

Smart

Silly

Sweet

Gianna remembers me even though we have not seen each other for over a year and we converse as if we are very dear friends – not a 4 year old and a (slightly) older woman.  We discuss what her mom and dad do, visiting with grandmas, what she likes to eat, how she enjoys twirling, maybe a song or two… and yes, she even allows me to take pictures.  Stopping just long enough for each shot, she is then off to see something else so very important in my studio yard.  It is her session and I follow her much like I imagine a paparazzi photographer would do, knowing that good shots will come.

Then we are done – we sit and Gianna lets me teach her “This Little Light of Mine.”  After one sing through she has it down pat.  She is off to enjoy what the rest of the day will bring.  Gina graced my studio with her happy little self and brought JOY!

How is it?

How is it that the moment you hold your newborn baby, it feels as if they have been with you all along?
New moms and dads know that instant bond with the fragile life they now can touch and hug. Old
moms and dads can remember that moment as if it were a minute ago.

When Bob and Tara came to me for wedding photography the smiles that he put on her face were
contagious. They laughed that secret laugh one has when you can’t help yourself – you just love each
other and no matter what they say makes you grin.

To have them come back with their birth of their little guy, Ryan was a treasure. And their small circle
of joy and laughter had expanded to bring him in. Now Bob tells his corny jokes to their little guy… with
such tenderness that you know those words are washing over Ryan with love. And Tara still smiles just
as broadly.

You can see that they have had that moment – they have understood that this life, so very precious, was
meant to be theirs and their hearts are full. I know – when years have passed they too will remember
the joy those first few moments of life held.

So happy to capture some of their moments.

Joseph comes from a long line of yellow jackets … he has an early start to fulfill that tradition!

Elise Grace

The New Year started with Elise Grace.  Her two names mean My God is a vow of mercy or favor.  Her sweet little face and eyes match her name.

Grace joined Ben, her older brother and MacKenzie, her older sister.

She was a Christmas blessing for Tabitha and Jon.  Their home is sweet with the joy of this new love of their lives.

Welcome 2012 – a new year ready to be filled with delight and happiness.

Laughter and Joy

The most wasted of all days is one without laughter.  ~ ee cummings

Based on ee cummings quote – there are no wasted days, I imagine, with Teresa and Chandler.  From the moment they arrived with their grandmother for a photo session, there was uncontrolled mirth!  Too happy to be still, we had fun in Thrasher Park of Norcross finding all sorts of possibilities for photo backdrops.

Alecia has such love for her grandchildren and it shows in their relationship she has with them.   It has been a delight to photograph other grandchildren and this latest shoot left me happy to have been able to capture the enjoyment of life that Teresa and Chandler have for she and Larry.

I cannot look at these images without a big smile on my face!  Hope they bring you, my friend, the same joy!

Holden

Holden came to me for photographs on a bright sunny Saturday morning – just after I worked with his aunt, Elizabeth for a high school senior shoot.

When I met Holden, I could see how his name fit him well.  The meaning of the name “Holden” is Deep Valley.   Holden had a way of seriously taking everything in throughout our time together and I could tell he had an opinion about all that we did.

Walking along the tracks in Historic Norcross, he looked at each facet of the railroad– the wonder of all the details showing on his face.   He patiently let me capture the pictures of him that his parents had in mind – there and as we walked in Thrasher Park.

I often think when I am walking through a photo shoot – “How is it that there are no two people alike? “And – as always – “how fun is it that I have the joy of photographing this slice of life!”

So happy to have met you, Holden – will be cool to see you as you grow!
